If something has happened

Focus on safety first. Then follow the claims instructions in your policy.

The insurer or claims handler shown in your policy documents is normally the right place to report and manage a live claim.

At the scene

  • Make sure everyone is safe and call emergency services where required.
  • Exchange details with other involved parties where appropriate.
  • Record useful information such as location, registration numbers, photos and witness details if it is safe to do so.
  • Do not admit liability or agree a private settlement without understanding the effect on your policy/claim.

Who should you contact?

Use the claims telephone number or instructions shown in the documents issued for your policy. That contact may be the insurer or an appointed claims handler.

Can’t find the documents? Use the support hub with your registration, email address and any payment/policy reference you have. Support can help locate documents, but a live claim still needs to follow the insurer’s claims process.

What to have ready

Policy details

Policy or certificate number, insured driver and registration.

Incident details

Date, time, location and a clear description of what happened.

Other parties

Names, contact details, vehicle details and insurers if available.

Evidence

Photos, dashcam footage, witness information or police reference where relevant.

GOOD TO KNOW

Claims need the policy route

A claim is not handled in the same way as a website or payment support request. The correct insurer/claims contact should be taken from the issued policy documents.

Keep the certificate, policy wording and any claim reference together.

Record the incident information accurately and follow the insurer’s instructions about evidence and next steps.

For urgent safety situations or emergencies, use the appropriate emergency services rather than waiting for website support.
